, 1 företalet till A Dissertation on the Sexes of Plants, transla-
ted from the Latin of LInNN&vus, Lond. 1786, 8:0, kallar
LINNé p. x. först the Prince of Naturalists , och säger sedan

em honom p. xI. sq:

Like all oiher great men who have distingvished themselves
above the rest of minkind, LInNAUs has had his enemies, al-
though few have had more friends. It is not wonderful that ihe
innovations he made should alarm those who thonght themselves
his superiors in the science which he taught, and who had long
been dealing out the opinions of others, without daring to think
for themselves, His opponents of this kind, as well as those
who on making use of their judgment disapproved of his pube
lications, are now, with their works, for the most part gone off
the stage. The fuility of their objections has been repeatedly
shewn by many of LINN2zus’s pupils and admirers , he himself
scarce ever deigning to notice them, and trusting for his justifi-
cation to time alone, Its decision has been most completely in
his favour. He lived to enjoy the highest honours and rewards
that his country could bestow, and to sce his system, by beco-
ming universal, contribute more to the advancement of his dar=
ling study, than the united Jabours of all mankind before him;
