The siege of Port Arthur is a grim tragedy,
but the most tragic part is that it was not allowed
to end as a tragedy. Still, it would be unfair to
forget, because of the weakness of the concluding
scenes, the grand, masterly drama which the
Russians have given to history by their seven
months’ heroic struggle.
