As I reflect upon the conditions which prevailed
in the early days, and as I look upon the flourishing
community of today, I can only say: “All honor to
the brave and hardy pioneers. They have stood
unflinchingly upon the battle line, fighting against most
harsh conditions—conditions such as would have crushed
the spirits of a weaker mold. They have displayed a
heroism which stands unmatched even by that of the
soldier upon the field of battle. They have created
new environments which are today shaping brighter
destinies for the generations that are to be”.
Many are already sleeping under the churchyard
mould, but they have fought a good fight; they have
finished their course. Hereafter their children shall be
crowned with the fruitage of their suffering and toil.
