Addison, Joseph (1672–1719), poet, playwright, politician, Great Britain.

Author of Cato, a tragedy (1713). Translated to Danish by Niels Qvistgaard (1749-1789) or actually by M. F. Liebenberg (1767-1828) and published in 1792. (A fragment in Swedish by Olof von Dalin is not a translation from Addison's play.)

Together with Richard Steele published The Spectator (1711-1712), providing inspiration for Sedo-lärande Mercurius (1730-1731) and for Dalin's Then swänska Argus (1732-1734). Excerpts from The Spectator were translated into Swedish by Jacob Kling as Den engelske spectator (1734-1735).

K. G. Ossiannilsson has translated to Swedish Sir Roger de Coverley (1923). An anonymous Norwegian translation of Sir Roger af Coverley (1874) was published in Bergen, digitized by Nasjonalbiblioteket.
