Donnelly, Ignatius (1831–1901),
politician, writer, USA.
Son of Irish immigrants who settled in Philadelphia, where he was
born in 1831. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for
Minnesota 1863-1869 and a member of the Minnesota Senate 1874-1894. He
died in 1901 in Minneapolis.
Some of his writings are famous:
- Atlantis : the Antediluvian World (1882)
- Ragnarok : the Age of Fire and Gravel (1883)
- Cæsar's column (1890);
translated to Swedish as Världens undergång : en roman från det
tjugonde århundradet (Stockholm, 1891) also published as
Cæsars kolonn (Chicago, 1891) and
Civilisationens undergång (Malmö, 1892);
has been compared to Edward Bellamy's
Looking backward (1888)
- The Golden Bottle or the Story of Ephraim Benezet of Kansas
(1892);
translated to Swedish as Den gyldene flaskan eller berättelsen
om Ephraim Benezet från Kansas (1893)
