Frans Eemil Sillanpää (1888- 1964) wrote naturalistic prose. He
was awarded the 1939 Nobel Prize for literature for the book Silja,
nuorena nukkunut (Silja, Fallen Asleep While Young, 1931).

In 1939, Frans Eemil Sillanpää received the Nobel Prize for literature, "for his deep understanding of his country's peasantry and the exquisite art with which he has portrayed their way of life and their relationship with Nature".
