Guðbrandur Vigfússon, Icelandic linguist, born 13 March 1827, died 31 Jan 1889.

1850 student in Copenhagen
1864 invited to England to complete the Icelandic-English dictionary begun by R. Cleasby. Vigfusson completed this work in 1874. "He had earlier revised Sveinbjörn Egilsson's Lexicon poeticum"
1866 settled in Oxford
1871 M.A. from Oxford University
1877 Honorary doctor at Upsala University
1884 professor at Oxford
